Hong Kong Trails and Tours

Transportation fees:

Transportation fees is included in the tour price( bus, MTR, star ferry, minibus, road tram) excluding the Peak Tram, the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, the Lantau Airport Express, or private car hires. The guide may decide to take a taxi if it’s necessary or practical for the itinerary, but you’ll still pay for it separately. The guide handles their own transport unless specified otherwise. Food, drinks, and souvenirs purchased are not covered in the price. Purchase of the Octopus card is optional, although it can be used for any small purchases, travel, convenience stores, and vending machines. Please carry enough cash, say 300 HKD to 500 HKD if you dont want to buy an Octopus.
If you prefer to be picked up from the hotel, the hours are calculated according to that time.

Booking and availability:

Last-minute bookings may be possible, but 24 hours’ notice is preferred whenever feasible. Always check the guide’s online calendar first to confirm the date is free (times are in Hong Kong time, GMT+08:00). If your preferred time slot isn’t listed, mention it in a message. Suggested start times:

  • Day tours: around 10am
  • Night tours: 6 pm

Preparations and recommendations:

Read the full tour description carefully before booking any “hard” hikes. The guide reserves the right to adjust the hike itinerary based on their assessment of participants’ capabilities. Even on hard-rated trails, the pace will always be slow to moderate—this is not a fast-paced or trail-running group. If a participant leaves the guided group to take a different route, shortcut, or finish early/at another point, I take no responsibility for them. I will help guide clients from the meeting place to other points of interest using public transport (e.g., MTR, bus, taxi, minibus) or a private vehicle. However, I will not be liable for any injury that happens while boarding, traveling in, or getting off any public or private transport. I will provide a list of recommendations (clothing, equipment, fitness level, etc.) for safety and comfort. It is the client’s responsibility to follow these recommendations. The guide reserves the right to refuse participation if she believes a client is not adequately prepared for the specific walk/hike, with no refund.

Payments:

Cash only—pay on the day, preferably at the start of the tour (either HKD or USD accepted). The fixed exchange rate used is US$1 = HK$7.80 (this matches Hong Kong’s long-standing currency peg, so it’s a standard and fair rate). No advance/deposit payment is required. Please let me know if you need a receipt for the payment. There will be no refunds for cancellation of the tours partway through; in the event of weather preventing the itinerary from being completed as planned, the guide will use their best efforts to provide an alternative for the booked duration, but no refund will be made. Payment constitutes agreement to all our terms and conditions.

Substitution:

In the event of my indisposition, I reserve the right to arrange a substitute licensed tour guide; in this case, I will contact you as far as possible in advance to confirm your agreement.

Disclaimer:

I will make the final decision and may cancel the activity before it starts or stop it early if any of these weather warnings are issued by the Hong Kong Observatory or if there is evidence of a bush fire likely to affect the route:

  • Rainstorm warning (Amber, Red, or Black—indicating heavy to very heavy rain that can cause flooding and disruption)
  • Thunderstorm warning
  • Typhoon signal (any level, from No. 1 standby to No. 10 hurricane-force winds)
  • Flood warning (e.g., special announcement for flooding in areas like Northern New Territories)
